How interesting!: Ashton loves dance parties, and making people laugh!
What brought you to Baltimore?
I moved to Baltimore in 2014, to be closer to my now husband. He grew up near the city and knew he wanted to stay here. As a freelance wedding photographer, it was easier for me to make the move from West Virginia. As nervous as I was about fitting in here in the city, I have loved every moment of it! Baltimore is truly home to me now.
I’m a full-time wedding photographer, and I travel a lot for that. I have the great honor of being able to also mentor other growing photographers, which is really gratifying. I love sharing my gift with others, providing memories to be looked back on, and creating a community within our industry.
I’m passionate about freezing moments for my clients. I love making people laugh, and I am obsessed with 30 second dance parties. Not only do I like to break into dance parties when I’m celebrating, but I also love to have my bridal parties break it down on wedding day together. There is no better way to celebrate than to shake it off—unless it’s with confetti!
Nothing makes me happier than meeting new people, seeing new places, and getting caught up in unexpected adventure. I’m passionate about life! It has so much to offer, which leaves so much to be captured by a photographer like myself.
What’s your connection to Baltimore?
It brings me a lot of joy to help my husband through the Patterson Park Neighborhood Association (PPNA). When I do have a spare moment, it’s great to see how they’re investing time in our neighborhood. Giving back to our residential community is equally as important as feeding my creative soul.
What do you like about Baltimore?
Baltimore residents are a tight knit family. One thing I’ve learned over the past few years is that the community is resilient and there is something amazing around every corner. I know we’ve seen some tough times, but it’s always great to see how the city bounces back. We always do it together. As a “transplant” resident, I know Baltimore has a reputation, but it’s really nothing like what you see on TV. Baltimore is full of unique people who all have in common one thing: they love this city.
I would love for the world to see the sweet side of Baltimore. There are amazing small businesses around every corner, people with fantastic stories, and tons of history to explore. The art scene here is extraordinary as well. There is a lot of good going on around here!
New Baltimoreans should definitely check out:
PPNA Youth & Families: My husband and I have had the pleasure of working with Patterson Park Public Charter School (PPPCS) during the Christmas holidays, organized by the Patterson Park Youth and Family Engagement Committee. We go in and supervise craft tables and cookie-decorating, throw a holiday party for the local kids, and give families something to do together. We’re really interested in raising our family here in the city; it’s so great to be able to connect with the community now and establish our roots. It is such a joy to be involved and invested in the neighborhood our kids will one day play in.
