What brought you to Baltimore?
I was born and raised in Baltimore City. Baltimore nurtured my talent as a creative writer and performance poetry artist. I spent many years teaching creative writing in schools all over the city. I now work at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center as a Violence Prevention Specialist.

What’s your connection to Baltimore?
The poetry scene in Baltimore is the absolute best of anywhere, hands down. We produce some of the best poets in the universe. Every style is unique. I’m a poet, and I was introduced to the poetry scene here about 20 years ago. A friend took me to 5 Seasons Open-Mic Night. I had no idea that this amazing culture existed prior to that.

What do you like about Baltimore?
Baltimore’s history is pretty profound. A lot has happened here. A lot of great people have lived here or currently live here, including both world-renowned people and everyday citizens. I’ve traveled all over the country for both professional work and vacation, but there’s no place like home. I love travelling, but I think I like living in Baltimore more.
