What’s your connection to Baltimore?
I am an actor and teaching artist; I live and work in Baltimore City. The Northwood neighborhood of Baltimore is my home, and I love my neighborhood and all of Baltimore as a whole! I spend a lot of time working in the arts and children’s arts education, especially arts integrated learning.

What do you like about Baltimore?
Wow, there are so many things I enjoy about Baltimore! I love the museums, the music, and of course the theater scene. I love all the festivals and events. There are just so many educational and historical things here to explore and experience. Enoch Pratt Free Library, the central location on Cathedral Street, is one of my favorite places. It is big; they have pretty much everything! All the plays are together in one section so any time I want to read a new play, I go there, grab something and start reading. There are students working and studying, jovial middle-aged men laughing and playing board games, people reading magazines and newspapers and listening to music, folks filling out job applications on the computer, little kids having fun reading and learning… there’s simply nothing like a big, beautiful library dedicated to serving its community!

I also love the Inner Harbor and going to Orioles games. There’s this oddly unique camaraderie that’s present at sports games. You’ll find yourself hugging and high-fiving complete strangers because your team scored and they’re wearing O’s gear, so you know you’re rooting for the same team. And nothing beats the chicken box (with ‘saltpepperketchuphotsauce’—yes, that’s one word!) with a half-n-half to drink! And by the way, I’m not talking about those sorry “chicken boxes” from Royal Farms. I’m talking about the REAL chicken boxes from corner store places, Hip Hop Fish and Chicken, and even Chinese food spots. That’s definitely unique to Baltimore—once when I was out of town, I asked for a half-n-half and they thought I was talking about the cream that people put in their coffee!

On a deeper level, I love the sense of home, belonging, and familiarity that Baltimore provides. I love our resiliency and our willingness to stand up and fight for what we believe in. I love that there are so many individuals, organizations, movements, and programs dedicated to helping one another. This city teaches you pride, hard work, community, and resourcefulness. I feel loved and safe here.
